Hayatın İçinden Diyaloglar (1)
23 Feb2008Z.C.: “It is both interesting and challenging to focus on such a complex question.”
S.K.: “Yes, it is. Turkish politics is quite complex. But this is only one way of looking at it. Because, Turkish politics can also be quite simple – in the sense that most of the major problems the country faces today have to do with the existence of an official ideology. The problems persist, because a salient number of bureaucrats and military officials as well as a certain segment of the population, albeit a minority, not only want the dogma to stay but also have the necessary will and power to keep it in effect. This is when the question becomes: whether they will acquiesce to its abandonment when faced with an even more conscious majority in the future. Yet this is also when the question becomes not as intriguing to me as before. Therefore, I will probably not work on Turkish politics in the future.”
